About Second Leash

Keeping dogs safe until their people can come home

Second Leash is an Arkansas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides temporary foster care for dogs whose owners are facing incarceration, residential treatment, hospitalization, housing instability, or another temporary crisis.

Unlike an adoption program, Second Leash is built around preservation and reunification. Owners retain ownership while screened foster caregivers provide temporary care, helping prevent unnecessary surrender, abandonment, and permanent separation.
